I think they did that for time, although I still think they dulled the Corolla after the AE86. It's not a cool car any more.

Yes, the full commercial looks like they had a whole coordinated routine that ends up being a few pieces of paper floating around a corner in the final edit.

What else could they've done? Leaving out the 2014 Corolla would be weird for a 2014 Corolla ad.
The slogan made me chuckle though. "Elevate your style." Right. The Corolla has some great qualities, style isn't one of them.

I think Toyota made a mistake with that generation when they let GM sell the Sprinter as the Geo Prizm. I think the styling on the Sprinter/Prizm was way better.

Oh, I don't know; I actually like the 2014 Corolla's looks. I'd have to drive it first, because when I had the previous generation as a loaner car I utterly hated it. Terrible cheap interior and no driving feel whatsoever.

I noticed that they do that in the 30 second ad. In the longer one they have a 90s Camry at what seems to be a punk/grunge show. Guess they were a little embarrassed.

The AE86 was the pinnacle of the Corolla. If I was marketing, I would have stopped the commercial at the AE86, and dropped all the dancing and the 2014 Corolla at the end.
The TurboSloth version of this commercial would have gone like this
-REMEMBER WHEN THIS WAS GOOD? YEAH ME TOO.
-OH, THE 2014 COROLLA, YEAH. UM. STYLE. HERE ( insert a shadowed silhouette of the 2014 corolla. Just so we can say this is a commercial for the 2014 corolla without actually showing how not as good it is).
- PAN BACK TO THE AE86. STYLE.
